NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The mother of a 17-year-old recent high school graduate who died in a car accident on Monday night is speaking out. The grieving mother says their family went from shedding tears of joy, to tears of sorrow in the blink of an eye.

Jared Higgs tells us more.

Thirty-eight-year-old Ashana Thervil smiles as she recalls the relationship she shared with her daughter, 17-year-old Shenna Thervil.

Shenna died when she crashed the car she was driving on George Albury Blvd in Dundas Town, Abaco.

The teenager was ejected from the vehicle and died later at the Marsh Harbour clinic.

Our News spoke to Thervil, who lives in Murphy Town, Abaco, over Zoom.

The 38-year-old is trying to stay strong for her family.

Shenna’s uncle is having a difficult time coping with her death. Her mother has been trying to encourage him.

Just last Friday, the Thervil family was celebrating Shenna’s graduation from Patrick J Bethell High.

It was a tough few years for the teenager as she survived Dorian, and dealt with the interruption to normal schooling due to covid.

Graduation was a day full of joy and surprises, like seeing her uncle who visited from Canada.

Thervil had already got certified to do mink lashes, and had plans to pursue full-fledged cosmetology.

She had two younger siblings who her mother says she has to stay strong for.
