IRAN – Mourners gathered in Tehran’s main square on Monday after a helicopter carrying Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi crashed on Sunday, May 19, while navigating mountain terrain in heavy fog.

The crowd displayed a mix of emotions, with some people crying and others holding posters bearing Raisi’s image.

A senior iranian official confirmed that all passengers on the helicopter, including the foreign minister, were killed.

According to the Islamic Republic’s Constitution, a new presidential election must be held within 50 days.
