UNITED STATES – Cable news channel MSNBC is rebranding itself as MS NOW or “My Source for News, Opinion and the World”, according to internal memos seen by Reuters on Monday.

The move comes as parent company Comcast prepares to spin off several NBCUniversal cable networks, including CNBC and USA, into a new company called Versant later this year, marking a broader strategic pivot toward streaming.

As part of the changes, the networks will also retire NBC Universal’s iconic peacock logo. Comcast will keep the legacy NBC broadcast network and its film and television studios, which are expected to support growth for the Peacock streaming service.

MSNBC, originally launched in 1996 as a partnership between Microsoft and NBC, has outgrown its original name since Microsoft exited the venture in 2012. The rebranding follows a trend among media companies, including Warner Bros. Discovery’s brief 2023 change of HBO Max to Max and IAC’s Dotdash Meredith relaunch as People, Inc.
