Two Bahamian Baseball Prospects Participate in MLB All-Star Festivities
Seattle, WA, USA. Baseball players Daalen Adderley and BJ Murray had the honor of competing in Major League’s Baseball’s festivities over the weekend.
Adderley played in the inaugural HBCU swingman classic on Friday night. Conceptualized by former Seattle Mariners great Ken Griffey Jr. whose son plays football for Florida A&M University, an HBCU in Tallahasse, FL. The game showcases 50 of the best HBCU baseball players in the country having them play in front of Major League executives and scouts
The outfielder, who just wrapped up a historically great season with Texas Southern University, went 1-2 with a sacrifice fly and a single, driving in two RBI to help his team get a 4-3 win.
Speaking about his experience, Adderley said: “It was great to meet all these hall of farmers was phenomenal. The treatment was incredible, they treated us like big-leaguers. Being the first Bahamian to do it makes it even more special”.
BJ Murray also participated in the all-star festivities, playing in the MLB Futures all-star game.
Started in 1999, MLB Futures aimed to introduce the next crop of MLB starts to the baseball-watching public via an exhibition game. It has grown in prominence over the subsequent decades and being selected to play in it is a tremendous honor for a minor league player.
Murray, struck out in his lone-at bat, stranding two on base as his team, the NL routed the AL 5-0.
Murray, who plays for the Chicago Cubs AA affiliate, the Tennesee Smokies is leading his league in OPS and is one of the top players in the Cubs organization. He’s been on a tear recently and we wouldn’t be surprised if he finished the season on the Cubs’ expanded roster. Adderley recently announced that he will enter the transfer portal and leave Texas Southern. He was one of the best hitters in college baseball. The Bahamas has been producing talented baseball prospects at an incredible pace in the past decade.
