Nassau Native to Play In The MLB Futures Game

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – BJ Murray Jr. of the Chicago Cubs Double-A affiliate, the Tennesee Smokies, has been selected to play in the MLB Futures All-Star Game.

The Futures game is an exhibition game held as a part of the MLB all-star festivities that showcases the next wave of baseball stars. This year’s game will take place in Seattle on Saturday, July 8th at 7 pm Bahamas time.

The selection is a coup for Murray, a switch-hitting infielder, who was taken in the 15th round by the Cubs in 2021 from Florida Atlantic University of Boca Raton, FL.

Despite being a low draft pick, Murray fought his way through the lower levels of the minors, turning himself into a ridiculously productive player along the way. Now he’s hitting .258 with a .822 OPS, along with 7 home runs, 17 doubles, and 36 RBI this season for one of the best teams in AA.

Being named to this prestigious all-star game is a signal from the Cubs to the rest of the world that this former 15th-round pick is someone that they seriously believe can be their next major league star.

He sure is playing like it.
