NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The Court of Appeal has ordered a new trial for a murder convict after ruling that a miscarriage of justice took place during his trial.

William Etienne was sentenced to 57 years in prison for the August 2018 shooting death of Alvin Strachan.

The incident happened at the FML Web Shop on East and Balfour Streets.

Prosecutors alleged that Etienne shot and killed Strachan after accusing him of speaking ill of his mom.

The Court of Appeal ruled that the trial judge Franklyn Williams KC erred by forcing Etienne to represent himself at his trial.
