NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Minister of State Myles Laroda has ordered recently executed contracts and hires at the National Insurance Board to be put on hold, pending a review.

He insisted the move is not political. Jasmin brown reports.

State Minister Myles Laroda insisting he has no intention of playing politics at the National Insurance Board.

Laroda, who toured NIB headquarters and met with executives this morning, says the board will examine everything and come up with a decision that is fair to all parties.

He added he is seeking to avoid any claims of political shananigans.

Over the years, parties in opposition have accused the government of reviewing and canceling legitimate contracts squarely on the basis of politics.

When the Minnis administration took office in 2017, it set a mandate to clean house and remove corrupt practices, beginning with forensic and other audits.

During the tour of NIB, Laroda could not say how many contracts and hires were impacted by the recent order.

But he does insist the matter will be expedited.
