NASSAU, BAHAMAS – After years of negotiations, the Nurses Union finally signs an agreement with the Public Hospitals Authority. As Italia Hall tell us, nurses will receive a number of benefits including a retention bonus.

The the five-year industrial agreement was inked at the Office of the Prime Minister. Present was President of the Nurses Union Amancha Williams. She’s calls the agreement a great one, pointing out it includes a retention bonus plan.

Additionally, the starting salary for nurses will be raised to $30,000.

Chief Labour Consultant Bernard Evans says this is just the beginning, while Trade Union Congress President Obie Ferguson says the agreement meaningful. PHA Chairman aAndrew Edwards says the signing is the first of many.

Meanwhile, Managing Director of the PHA Aubynette Rolle points out nurses make up 70% of the population in the healthcare system.
