NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A police officer involved in a car crash while responding has lost his appeal against a conviction for driving without due care and attention.

Sometime after 7pm on November 9, 2020, Corporal 2012 Newton was in a marked police car when Police Control Room informed him that another officer needed assistance.

Newton turned on his siren and headed to the call.

While crossing the traffic light at the intersection of Thompson Boulevard and Big Pond Highway, Newton collided with a vehicle heading west across the intersection driven by Marlon Briscoe.

According to witnesses, Newton was driving against the flow of traffic and ran the red light, causing the accident.
