NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A man who admitted to shacking up with a runaway minor has been jailed for one year.

Twenty-six-year-old Alex Simmons pleaded guilty to abduction of an unmarried teen at his arraignment before Assistant Chief Magistrate Carolyn Vogt-Evans.

The court heard that the 16-year-old girl packed up her belongings and left her mother’s home on February 14 after an argument over uncompleted chores.

She told police that she went to Simmons, whom she described as her boyfriend.

She stayed with Simmons until March 18, the date of his arrest.

Simmons and the girl admitted to having sexual relations while living together.

Although the now 17-year-old could give consent to having sex, as a minor, she could not legally live with Simmons.
