PANAMA – Panama declared its sovereignty over the Panama Canal “non-negotiable” after U.S. President-elect Donald Trump suggested military force to seize it.

Trump called the 1977 treaty handing the canal to Panama a “big mistake” and falsely claimed Chinese soldiers operated it.

Foreign minister Javier Martínez-Acha refuted the claims, insisting the canal is run solely by Panamanians. He dismissed any offers from Trump, calling Panama’s sovereignty “irreversible.”

President José Raúl Mulino assured citizens the canal would remain under Panamanian control “forever”.
