NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The Leader of the Opposition is expressing “sincere concern” over recent comments made by Prime Minister Philip Davis regarding the impact climate events have had on the country’s fiscal affairs from 2015-2019.

In a statement released Thursday afternoon, Michael Pintard explained that $3.4 billion is the estimate of the total economic damage, including private sector and public sector damages and losses, as estimated by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) by November 2019.

Pintard says most of that figure is the sum of losses to private sector assets and commercial activity, and not an addition to the country’s national debt.

This as the Opposition Leader called on the PM to, “examine the source of his information on the key contributors to our national debt and correct his statements as necessary.”
