FREEPORT, GRAND BAHAMA – A multi-million dollar investment is now open for Business in Grand Bahama.

Prime Minister Philip Davis officially opening the Elnet Maritime Agency today in what is seen as a major step in the rebound of that island’s economy.

Megan Shepherd has the story from Grand Bahama.



It has been years in the making, the development and opening of the Elnet Maritime Agency center on Grand Bahama.

It’s a warehouse facility, training center for young people interested in the industry and main operations center for the Maritime Agency.

Prime Minister Philip Davis commending the agency’s President and CEO, Elbert Hepburn, for his commitment to seeing this project through despite many challenges and setbacks.

President and CEO, Elbert Hepburn, says he has had a passion for the industry since he was a teenager, explaining why he made the significant investment.

Hepburn believes in the empowerment of Bahamians rather than relying heavily on foreign investors, however; he says that too can be a challenge.

Hepburn says the original budget for the 12,000 sq ft center was for $1.7 million, but inflation took the final price tag to $2.3 million.
