GRAND BAHAMA, BAHAMAS – Time after time it’s been said that the Grand Bahama Port Authority (GBPA) may be responsible for the current state of the economy in Freeport.

GBPA President Ian Rolle is clearing the air and shares what the GBPA’s role and functions are in the city of Freeport.

Rolle says sometimes it’s disheartening to hear people say negative things about the GBPA for things they are not responsible for.

The president explainined what their functions are.

Rolle says he believes some don’t understand what the authority’s responsibilities are which is laid out in the Hawksbill Creek Agreement.

He says this is a good time for people to take advantage of opportunities in Grand Bahama.

The port president says it’s important for people to realize that no other island in the country has been hit with so many natural disasters over the last few decades.

And as for the GBPA’s relationship with government, he says it’s a positive one.
