NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Prime Minister Philip Davis called the Electricity Bill 2024 and Natural Gas Bill 2024 “the most ambitious energy reform agenda in our history” but says it will take over a billion dollars to get Bahamas Power and Light back on track.

Still he insists there will not be layoffs in the process.

And contrary to reports that the Electricity Bill 2024 would allow electricity suppliers to set their own tariff rates for the next three years without regulation by the Utilities Regulation & Competition Authority, Davis said that is not the case.

But multiple members of the opposition were concerned that the fast turnaround hasn’t given the public enough time to read and process the over 100 pages between the two bills.
