NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Amid the ongoing battle between Royal Caribbean International and Paradise Island Beach Club President Toby Smith, Bahamians are weighing in.

For the most part, Bahamians we spoke to say a Bahamian should be given approval for the property.

However, this resident believes the property should be given away at all.

Toby Smith has been pushing for the property for 12 years.

However, Royal Caribbean recently expressed interest in constructing a $100 million beach club.

The property is just west of the Atlantis Resort.

Atlantis President Audrey Oswell called on government to put the brakes on the project and ensure a heightened level of scrutiny and discourse before the cruise line is given any final approval to move ahead.

Environmentalists have also sounded off on the project.
In an open letter a group of environmentalists expressed concern over the proposed development’s impact on the coastline, water pollution among other things.
