NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Prosecutors have dropped burglary and rape charges against a 28-year-old man after his alleged victim died.

Thorne Cooper, whose nickname is Shadow, pleaded not guilty to accusations that he raped the 65-year-old woman on July 24th, 2020.

As a result of the death of the prosecution’s key witness, Acting DPP Franklyn Williams QC issued a nolle prosequi in the case.

Cooper, who has been in custody since 2020, will be released once his claim that he has no more pending matters has been verified.

In 2015, Cooper was convicted of assault with intent to rape and armed robbery.

He was sentenced to 10 years in prison with credit for the two years that he had spent on remand.
