NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Royal Caribbean International has gotten the green light from the Department of Environmental Protection and planning for the development of its $100 million dollar development on Paradise Island.

In a letter to RCI Senior Investments Manager for Private Destinations Jason Mayes, Deputy Director Dr. Rhianna Nelly-Murphy said RCI has substantively addressed the environmental concerns surrounding the project and can move forward with the submission of its environmental management plan.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism Chester cooper says he’s pleased by the news.

Royal Beach Club President and General Manager Philip Simon told the Tribune newspaper the approval takes them to the next step of submitting an environmental management plan and following that review and hoped for approval, a certificate of environmental clearance.

The road to this point wasn’t an easy one for RCI, as Bahamian entrepreneur Toby Smith had also been fighting for land to develop his two-million-dollar Paradise Island lighthouse and beach club.

Cooper says he hasn’t had any communications with Smith recently.
