GRAND BAHAMA, BAHAMAS – Closed signs hung outside pharmacies nationwide, Tuesday, as a standoff over price controlled medications between the government and pharmacists came to a head.

But it was consumers who paid the ultimate price, forced into government clinics and public hospitals to fill needed prescriptions.

Grand Bahamians expecting to go to staple pharmacies, like Sav Mor and Chippies, met shuttered doors and hastily pasted notices on storefronts.

Local resident, Gitte Goodrum, says it came as a shock to her because she called her pharmacy and had a refill confirmed just yesterday and was given no warning of today’s closure.

Like many of the people we spoke to, Goodrum sympathizes with pharmacy owners, but she’s not pleased about the sudden and swift closures.

But Not All Pharmacies Closed – Super buck pharmacy remained open and store manager Anthonique Saunders shares why.

At the time of the interview, Saunders confirmed that Super Buck Pharmacy has no plans on closing during the ongoing issue.
