Residents React: “I Think Everybody Should Resign”

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – “This government now, everybody should resign and we should have an election like yesterday,” one resident shared about an explosive indictment he says reflects poorly on the country.

He is one of several residents sounding off on that U.S. indictment that was filed in the southern district of New York. 

It revealed that 11 Bahamians — including a senior police officer, a police sergeant and a defense force officer — and two Colombians have been charged with conspiracy to import cocaine into the united states, possession and use of firearms, and firearms conspiracy.

It names Chief Superintendent Elvis Curtis, officer-in-charge of the Airport Division, Royal Bahamas Police Force, Sergeant Prince Albert Symonette and Royal Bahamas Defence Force Chief Petty Officer Darrin Roker as conspirators who helped facilitate the transshipment of tons of cocaine from South America through The Bahamas and into the United States.

Bahamians today tell us there should be consequences.

Addressing the issue Wednesday, Prime Minister Philip Davis said the betrayal will not go unanswered, adding that it strikes at the Core of who we are as a nation.

The prime minister has also ordered Foreign Affairs Minister Fred Mitchell to send a diplomatic note to get more details on the investigation.
