NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Cynthia “Mother” Pratt will serve as the next governor general of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas.

In a statement on Tuesday, Prime Minister Philip Davis expressed confidence that the new appointment will be widely accepted as a representation of Bahamians everywhere due to the character and contributions which he says distinguishes her as a nationalist of the highest order.

Well, we put that question to residents, and they say they agree.

Cynthia Pratt, was born on November 5th, 1945, in New Providence and her life of service includes contributions to nursing, education, politics, sports, and religion.

She served with dedication for fifteen years as the member of parliament for the St. Cecilia constituency.

Her political career is also highlighted by several firsts as she was appointed the first female deputy prime minister and first female minister of national security. 

The appointment takes effect on September 1st.
