NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A $1.6 million increase in the Office of the Prime Minister’s travel budget not sitting well with the electorate.

Originally, $569,721 was budgeted and approved for travel subsistence in the Office of The Prime Minister, the addition puts the travel budget now to $2.2 million.

The official Opposition since criticized the government’s travel agenda on multiple occasions, calling it excessive.

This resident agrees and says government should reconsider the size of future of delegations.

On Thursday, Financial Secretary Simon Wilson and Communications Director Latrae Rahming defended the increase, saying every trip the prime minister attends is necessary.

But these residents say they believe the money reallocated for OPM travel could be put to use in other areas such as healthcare, education and immigration.
