Bahamas Defeats Puerto Rico In American Qualifiers

SAN JUAN, PUERTO RICO – The last time The Bahamas faced Puerto Rico in the Americup qualifiers was 2022. Puerto Rico won both games but things have obviously changed in 2024.

Team Bahamas opened the 2025 Americup qualifiers with a dominant win on the road over Puerto Rico in the group stage, 88-77.

The Bahamas led by as much as 15 in the first quarter and never trailed in the wite-to-wire win.

Domnick Bridgewater led four Bahamians in double figures with 20 points, six assists and shot 5/9 from beyond the arch.

Kentwan Smith had 17 points, Kai Jones had 13 points and 7 rebounds, and Tavario Miller nearly had a double-double with nine points and nine rebounds.

The Bahamas was 0-12 against Puerto Rico headed into the matchup. Team Bahamas Head Coach Moses Johnson spoke about what the win meant for The Bahamas.

The venue now shifts to the Kendal Isaacs Gymnasium on Sunday when The Bahamas hosts the second game in the home and away series.

Tipoff is at 8:10pm.

Hugh Campbell Tournament

One of the winningest programs in Bahamian high school basketball history, the C.I. Gibson Rattlers ended their 2024 season with the ultimate prize.

The Rattlers claimed their 6th Hugh Campbell title in school history with a 75-71 win over the defending champion Sunland Stingers last night at the Kendal Isaacs Gym.

Tashon Butler led all scorers with 27 points and was named tournament MVP.

Gerrard Rolle also had 17 points for the Rattlers.

Edwin Ferguson led the Stingers with 25 points and De’nage Kelly scored 23.

Rattlers Head Coach Kevin Johnson said he is already looking forward to his underclassmen stepping up next season.
