Sebastian Gets Called up To Double-A

U.S.A. – At just 18-years-old, Sebastian Walcott continues to make Bahamian baseball history and continues to progress through the Texas Rangers Organisation at a pace we’ve never seen before.

Walcott was called up to double-A baseball and will join the Frisco Roughriders for the final week of the regular season.

Frisco’s next game will be September 10 against Arizona Diamondbacks prospect Kristian Robinson, and the Amarillo Sod Poodles.

The 6’4″ infielder spent the bulk of the season at the high-a level with the Hickory Crawdads.

In 118 games, he hit .261 with a .785 ops, and slugging .443 with 10 home runs, 49 RBI and 26 stolen bases.

He led the South Atlantic League with 50 extra base hits, including a league leading nine triples.

Walcott also continues his ascent up the rankings of top prospects in Minor League Baseball and recently ranked no.37 in MLB pipeline’s list of the top 100 prospects.

He was previously ranked no.73 before the season began.

He also recently became just the second Bahamian player named to the MLB Futures Games which features the top prospects in all of minors.

Basketball

If his first game in a TREPCA uniform was any indication of what’s to come – Sammy Hunter and fans in Kosovo are going to have a season to remember.

Hunter finished with a double double – 24 points, 12 rebounds and was named player of the match in kb trepca’s 85-76 win over KB Bora.

With the win, they advanced to this week’s Kosovo super cup semifinals.

Hunter signed with TREPCA Basketball Club of the Kosovo Basketball Superleague last month to begin his pro career.

TREPCA is one of the most successful clubs in Kosovo, with five national titles and several appearances in the FIBA Eurocup.

At the ncaa division i level, he spent three years at ole miss, where he played sparingly before transferring to akron.

He had his most productive seasons in his final two years with the zips where he averaged 8.2 points per game as a junior and  career high 8.7 points per game as a senior.

WNBA

Jonquel Jones and the New York Liberty survived a fourth quarter collapse to get win number 29 on the season.

Jones finished with 15 points, 8 rebounds, and four assists in the Liberty’s 75-71 win over the las vegas aces yesterday at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

The Liberty improved to 29-6 and swept the season series against the defending champion aces for the first time since 2016.

New York led by as much as 20 in the second half, but las vegas opened the fourth on an 18-1 run and eventually took the lead with just under 2 minutes left to play.

Jones got it done down the stretch on both ends of the floor to help New York survive the aces comeback.

Clinging to a two point lead, she grabbed a rebound off a Breanna Stewart block, and sank both free throws with 2.5 seconds left to make it a two possession game.

The Liberty remained three games in front of the  Minnesota Lynx for the no. 1 seed in the WNBA playoffs. New York has five games left to play.

Jones became the fourth fastest player in WNBA history to reach 500 assists and 350 blocks in a career. 

She accomplished the feat in 270 games. 

Baseball

Bahamian baseball prospects continue to explore opportunities at the professional and collegiate level

Participation in the Dominican Prospect League was the first step in the partnership between International Elite Sports Academy and c35 baseball out of North Carolina.

IElite has produced some of the country’s top baseball prospects at the professional, collegiate and high school levels, while c35 baseball has become one of the premier full-service baseball organizations on the east coast. 

Headquartered in Pinehurst, North Carolina, c35 has helped over 100 players commit to play college baseball within the last two years.
