NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Months have gone by with little action on the ground to address the shantytown issue in Abaco, according to Central and South Abaco MP John Pinder, who says the matter is getting worse.

He adds, without immediate action, there’s a risk of losing the land.

Immigration officials have revealed that the farm shantytown in Treasure Cay, Abaco grew by 200 acres since Hurricane Dorian in 2019.

Since the demolition of The Mudd and Pigeon Pea shantytowns, which were decimated by Hurricane Dorian, it seems those residents have relocated to areas off S.C. Bootle High Way.

Both Pinder and North Abaco MP Kirk Cornish have spoken out on the issue.

Pinder reiterates the situation on the ground is disturbing, adding the shanty towns are a problem. But, the Abaco native hitting out at the Free National Movement for not dealing with the vexing issue.

According to Pinder, there’s light at the end of the tunnel. He’s confident the ‘New Day’ government will get a handle on the matter.
