NASSAU, BAHAMAS – With most schools opening in less than two weeks and some already open, many parents and students are still preparing, including single parents.

Tamara Porter is one of them, a mother of one, Porter says preparing for school is a part of the challenge of being a single mother.

But she’s found a method to the madness, sharing practical tools, ensuring a smoother process.

Porter is also a second-grade teacher at the Yellow Elder Primary School, a calling she says she takes pride in.

And while she sees the joy of learning on the faces of her students, she’s well aware of the harsh realities parents face.

She’s also encouraging single parents to use the resources made available.
