NASSAU, BAHAMAS – With what seems to be an increase in gender-based violence, many have spoken about what can be done to combat these issues. One of the suggested solutions is that more people need to report the matters and they also need to understand that such behavior is wrong.

Another suggested solution is victims using the Domestic Violence Protection Orders act to their advantage. According to Magistrate Ian-Marie Darville-Miller it’s one of the most powerful tools which magistrates have full autonomy over.

And, while there has been an uptick in these type of crimes being reported, she says more needs to be done to encourage more women to come forward.
