NEW YORK, UNITED STATES – Two pilots are dead, and dozens of people were hurt after an Air Canada Express jet collided with a fire truck while landing at New York’s LaGuardia airport late Sunday night.

Authorities say the CRJ-900, operated by jazz aviation, was arriving from Montreal with 72 passengers and four crew members on board.

Jazz Aviation and the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey confirmed the captain and first officer were killed.

Air traffic control audio captured the moments before impact, with a controller repeatedly shouting “stop, stop, stop” as a fire truck was crossing the runway.

Officials say the truck had been responding to a separate in-flight emergency involving an odor on another aircraft.

Flightradar24 data shows the plane was moving at about 24 miles per hour when it hit the fire vehicle.

The crash forced the closure of LaGuardia as investigators now work to determine how the aircraft and emergency vehicle ended up on the same runway.
