NASSAU, BAHAMAS – You may have seen it across your social media feeds or heard the buzz about a popular spot along Cowpen Road.

Amber Johnson, owner and proprietress of Johnny’s Restaurant and Bar, says the success of the business did not come from chasing trends.

She says the journey behind Johnny’s has been shaped by love, loss, consistency and a commitment to building something meaningful for the community.

“In an oversaturated market, you have to sell more than just drinks and food. We sell relationships. We work on building trust with our customers, getting familiarized with them, getting to know their names, their type of mood anytime they come in.”

That sense of connection is front and center this Super Bowl Sunday, as Johnny’s teams up with vendors for a full day of food, drinks and giveaways from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

“We’ve teamed up with some of our vendors, like BWA and 700 Wines, and we’re going to be giving out a lot of free stuff. For our pre-party, I Luck has decided to join us to do a happy hour — free happy hour drinks and shots.”

Beyond the specials, Johnson says the experience is what keeps customers coming back.

“We work on building relationships, not just taking your money. We get to know our customers. We sit down with them, we interact, we find out their birthdays. We sometimes throw surprise parties for our customers. We call them to check on them when we don’t see them in a long time. It’s about building relationships, building trust with people.”

From surprise birthday celebrations to checking in on regulars who have not stopped by in a while, Johnson says the approach is simple — be authentic.

“Everybody’s talking about the free shots, but it ain’t just about that. Our food is good. Our music selection caters to all ages and genres. You get more for your buck at Johnny’s. I’ll just leave it at that.”
