NASSAU, BAHAMAS – There are just two weeks left in the 2023 Atlantic Hurricane season, and yet we’re still dealing with two tropical disturbances in our area. One to the south of The Bahamas shows more than a 60% chance of becoming a cyclone in the next seven days.

Just last year we saw Hurricane Nicole make landfall in November, a reminder to stay prepared, even outside of peak season.

So far this season we’ve had 20 tropical systems develop in the Atlantic, and while that’s not the highest on record, we have had some record-breaking numbers this year in other concerning areas.

Ocean surface temperatures in Florida read as 101 degrees fahrenheit this August, and as we know, warm waters are often the fuel to the fire that creates stronger, rapidly intensifying hurricanes.

So what can we do?

Stay properly prepared until the end of hurricane season.

Make a year-round effort to reduce your carbon footprint by carpooling or using public transport when possible.

Be mindful of your household’s energy consumption- switching to LED bulbs and energy-efficient alternatives can help make a difference, not only for the environment but also for your power bill!
