NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Beauty products produce an estimated 120 million units of packaging annually, and a whopping 70% of the beauty industry’s waste.

And seeing that only about nine percent of plastics get recycled, it’s up to us to make the mindful choices that reduce the likelihood of more plastic ending up in the ocean.

Here are some top tips for how you can make your personal care products also care for the environment:

  1. Cut down on plastic packaging by choosing companies that package in refillable bottles like glass or aluminum, or even switching to bar soaps.
  2. Instead of constantly buying plastic razors, consider the switch from plastic to metal razors.
  3. Look for deodorant in cardboard or biodegradable packaging.
  4. When it comes time to get a new toothbrush, consider wooden or other biodegradable toothbrushes. They even make plant-based toothbrush heads that are compatible with electric toothbrushes.
