SWITZERLAND – Swiss authorities are confirming a deadly fire at a bar in the ski resort of Crans-Montana.

Forty people were killed and more than 100 others injured.

Officials say they are still investigating, but currently believe the fire may have been sparked by handheld sparklers attached to champagne bottles that came too close to the ceiling.

Police say identifying the victims is now the top priority.

The head of Swiss Judicial Police says quote “We need to give the correct remains back to the families.”

Local officials add that every minute without answers is unbearable for loved ones.

Doctors confirm some of the injured are as young as 15, being treated for severe burns.

Prosecutors say for now, no criminal liability has been identified but that investigators will examine whether those sparklers should ever be used in enclosed spaces.
