Team Bahamas Dominates Scrimmage Against Nicaragua

NICARAGUA – It was a travel day for most of the players on the roster, but once Team Bahamas hit the court in Nicaragua it quickly turned into a business trip.

The men’s senior national team was dominant in their first training camp scrimmage ahead of the FIBA Americup with a 95-56 win over the host country in Managua, Nicaragua.

Dominick Bridgewater led five Bahamian players in double figures with 18 points and 7 assists, Kentwan Smith scored 16 points, Kino Burrows and Sammy Hunter each had 13 points, Franco Miller Jr had a complete stat line with 11 points, 7 rebonds and 6 assists, and Isiah Mobley nearly had a double double in his national team debut – 9 points, 13 rebonds and 3 blocks.

The Bahamas returns to the court for a rematch with Nicaragua on August 16.

Volleyball

The 19th edition of the Caribbean Zonal Volleyball Association (CAZOVA) Senior Championships are set to get underway this weekend at the Kendal Isaacs Gymnasium.

Team Bahamas takes center stage for two fixtures right away: on Saturday at 7:30 pm, the men’s team goes head-to-head with Jamaica in group A, then on Sunday at 8:00 pm, the women’s team battles Guadeloupe in pool D action.

This marks the first time since 2006 that the bahamas is hosting this prestigious regional Tournament, making it a significant milestone for the nation’s volleyball community.

In anticipation, the Kendal G.L. Isaacs Gymnasium has undergone renovations to meet international competition standards. 

Upgrades include the installation of Olympic-standard flooring, enhancements to technical rooms for media coverage, and improved locker room facilities for athletes.

Seven men’s teams and six women’s teams from across the Caribbean will compete in the event. 

Jr. Pan Am Games

The Bahamas’ men’s 4×100m medley relay team delivered a strong closing performance at the 2025 Junior Pan American Games in Paraguay.

Lamar Taylor, Emmanuel Gadson, Nigel Forbes, and Marvin Johnson finished seventh in the final in a new national record time – 3:45.26 seconds.

It was the fifth national record from this year’s aquatics team at the event – three from relays.

The highlight of the team’s performance was of course Lamar Taylor’s silver in the 50m free and bronze in the 100m free along with his two national records.

Team Bahamas’ focus now shifts to sailing and athletics at the games which will continues through August 23.
