The Bahamas Olympic Committee officially announced the list of names at a ceremony Tuesday night at the Andre Rodgers National Baseball Stadium.

Headlining the list on the track, reigning 400m Olympic champions – Steven Gardiner and Shaunae Miller-Uibo, 60mh world record holder Devynne Charlton.

In the field, high jumper Donald Thomas makes his fifth olympic appearance, there’s also NCAA and national record holder in the javelin – Rhema Otabor, decathlete Ken Mullings, while Charisma Taylor contests the triple jump and the 100m hurdles.

Bahamas Aquatics will be represented by Rhaniska Gibbs and Lamar Taylor.

The opening ceremony takes place July 26, swimming will run from July 27 to August 4, and athletics will be August 1-11.

Meanwhile, it was a celebration for everyone that heard their name called last night, but one person that didn’t – quartermiler Lacarthea Cooper.

Cooper finished third in the women’s 400m at the BAAA’s Nationals in 53.38 seconds behind second place finisher Quincy Penn in 53.35 seconds.

Shania Adderley finished fifth in 54.50 seconds but was named to the olympic team for her contributions as a member of the 4x400m mixed relay team at the World Relays.

It has been a few tough breaks for Cooper in her two Olympic Bids. At 17, she qualified for the Tokyo Games but was forced to withdraw due to a positive COVID-19 test.

Cooper will head to the SEC next fall with the Alabama Crimson Tide.
