NASSAU, BAHAMAS – It’s been days since a devastating fire ripped through the Victoria Court Apartment Complex, leaving dozens of families displaced and a community shaken.

And as one resident tells Our News, they’re still picking up the pieces.

Kent Forbes is one of dozens of displaced residents of the Victoria Court Apartment Complex after a raging fire tore through their homes last Thursday.

Our News first spoke to Forbes the day after the fire.

Four days later, he says the shock of losing everything is still real, but despite their despair the residents have become more than neighbors.

Forbes telling Our News what should’ve torn them apart brought them closer.

“ It’s rough. The good thing about it as well is that the community is still going on. The, the chat group is still going on. Everybody is being supportive, um, letting people know, hey, there’s a space available at this location.

It’s been days and investigators still don’t know exactly what caused it.

But residents like Forbes have been allowed to return to assess the damage.

“ I don’t think there’s anything there. Given the fact that the fire started from the fifth and that came to the fourth. So i don’t think there’s anything there for, for me, but i’m trying to, trying to get whatever i can right about now.”

For Forbes, the loss is about more than earthly possessions, it’s about the life he built here and the sense of normalcy now gone.

“ I’m trying to not think about it because for the past couple days, the should or could’ve woulda is always on top of mind, you know, and I try to not think about those things. You know, I try to move forward.”

He says the support has been great.
