LONDON, ENGLAND – Millions of people across the United Kingdom and around the world were up early watching in awe as Charles became King Charles III. A role he’s been preparing for all his life. Our news was there for the historic event. Here’s a recap.

Westminster Abbey the scene of yet another historic moment as King Charles became the 40th reigning monarch to be crowned there since 1066.

The celebration started with a procession from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Abbey.

More than 2200 people from 204 countries including The Bahamas were already inside the church by the time the King and Queen arrived.

Once inside, King Charles followed the age-old tradition and was presented to the people standing beside the 700-year-old coronation chair.

Then, it was time for the oath. The Archbishop of Canterbury asked the King to confirm that he would uphold the law and the Church of England during his reign.

In his sermon, the archbishop said what was given today was for the gain of all. He stressed the importance of service.

The next step for the king was the anointing.

His ceremonial robe was removed and he sat to be anointed, symbolic of the spiritual status of the Sovereign who is the head of the church.
