GRAND BAHAMA, BAHAMAS – The Grand Bahama Power Company wants to raise its rates, but there’s been pushback.

Its regulator, The Grand Bahama Port Authority says it is reviewing that request.

But Foreign Affairs Minister, Fred Mitchell telling reporters they have no authority to do so.

This coming after a day of protests on the island by residents and community leaders.

Government has been at odds with the authority for some time, leading to a months-long public back and forth.

Mitchell also pointing to the Hawksbill Creek agreement.
