THE BAHAMAS – In 1925, Kendal George Lamon Isaacs was born in Nassau. A prominent Bahamian barrister and politician, Isaacs served as solicitor-general (1955-1963), attorney general (1963-1965), and was a key figure in The Bahamas Constitution Conference.

In 1925, Kendal George Lamon Isaacs was born in Nassau. A prominent Bahamian barrister and politician, Isaacs served as solicitor-general (1955-1963), attorney general (1963-1965), and was a key figure in The Bahamas Constitution Conference. He led the opposition from 1972-1976 and 1981-1987. The national gymnasium was named in his honor in 1990, and he was appointed KCMG in 1993. Isaacs passed away on May 25, 1996.

In 1998, Deandre Ayton was born in Nassau. A professional basketball player, Ayton plays for the Phoenix Suns in the NBA. He was the first overall pick in the 2018 NBA draft and helped the Suns reach the 2021 NBA Finals.

July 23, 2000, Peter John Bethell passed away at age 51. Born on November 16, 1950, Bethell was a doctor, baseball player, and politician. He served in various roles, including as a cabinet minister, and was instrumental in launching The Bahamas Games. He died after a battle with cancer.

And in 2015, the road leading to the Queen Elizabeth Sports Centre was renamed “Mychal Thompson Boulevard” in honor of the former Bahamian basketball star. Thompson, who moved to the U.S. and gained fame with the “Jackson Five” in basketball, expressed deep gratitude for the support from the Bahamian people. He made history as the first non-American to be the top pick in the 1978 NBA draft and had his number 43 retired by the University of Minnesota.
