NASSAU, BAHAMAS – While the country is mourning the death of Member of Parliament for West Grand Bahama and Bimini Obie Wilchcombe, his constituents are feeling a deep loss.

He was a son of the soil, one who was well-loved by many.

The name Obie Wilchcombe will be etched in the memories of many West Grand Bahama residents, the constituency he served in for decades.

Wilchcombe on the progressive liberal party ticket, contested the West Grand Bahama and Bimini seat in the May 2002 general election and won holding that seat until 2017, before his re-election in 2021.

These residents say they were in disbelief having seen Wilchcombe in West End just hours before.

Resident Robert Roker says he’s known Wilchcombe for years, having lived in the community all his life adding that Wilchcombe never missed a funeral in West End.
