GRAND BAHAMA, BAHAMAS – Scenes on Grand Bahama, Thursday, were dramatically different from 24-hours ago, when category one hurricane Nicole made landfall on the northern island.

The island’s capital West End, taking much of the brunt of the storm. When Our News visited, some yards were still filled with water, but clean up crews wasted no time clearing the road of debris washed up from the sea.

Harold Newton, a West End resident who has been living there for more than 50 years, says for him, hurricane Nicole was manageable, but it may be time for a new sea wall.

Sherica Smith made the decision to hunker down at home, in hopes that the storm would not have a devastating impact.

Today her conch salad stall was open for business, but she recalls rough seas just hours before when hurricane Nicole passed through her community.
