NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Amid reignited discussion and debate about marital rape, the Social Services Minister said the issue may soon be resolved.

Minister of Social Services and Urban Development Obie Wilchcombe says there has been close work with the Attorney General and the government is “very near” to legislation that addresses marital rape.

Wilchcombe said advancing gender equality laws isn’t always as simple as it sounds.

Wilchcombe emphasized that the ongoing dialogue is important.
