NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A local artist needs your help as she deal’s with a digestive issue doctors are still scratching their head to solve.

The issue she says has taken a mental toll on her but despite the challenge with the help and support of you she believes she can come out on top of it.

Our Joshua Williams tells us more.

Meet Salem Cunningham – she’s a young creative in the arts and performance field but, now she has to face one of the biggest challenges of her young life.

“Right now I’m facing issues with digestion and my immune system. We still don’t know exactly what it is yet which is what I’m trying to find out now right now my doctor is Gemma Rolle and so we’re both going on that journey. I have seen her so far for an appointment I’ve been tested for certain things so far I was just trying to get to the bottom of it”

It’s not something Cunningham expected to deal with at such a young age.

And with an array of tests, she says doctors still don’t fully understand what’s going on.

“When I took my lab into the lab, I took it and they were like hey we’ve actually never had somebody come in for a celiac panel and I was surprised to hear that because I thought well if I do have celiac am I the only person in the Bahamas with celiac disease that can’t be possible right ?”

And along with the diagnosis uncertainty, comes a high cost in medical bills.

“Most of them are from like 200 to 2000 the one that they think I need to take is at least $1100 which is just for the lab that’s not for my appointment to go back that’s not for any medication and stuff like that “

Cunningham says she’s grateful for all of the people that’ve helped so far and makes this invitation to those who may want to lend a helping hand.

“I have a post up on my Facebook. I have a post up on my Instagram. I have the flyer that I can send to you. I don’t know if you wanna put that wherever this is going to be and my banking information is on all of those.”
