GRAND BAHAMA, BAHAMAS – Six hundred million dollars is the price tag for the Grand Bahama Shipyard’s new transformational expansion project. The company breaking ground on Friday for the development that is expected to fuel economic growth on that northern island.

But the project would not be possible without some key players including the government, The Grand Bahama Port Authority, Carnival Corporation, and Royal Caribbean Group.

President and CEO of Royal Caribbean Group, Jason Liberty notes that the company’s relationship with the GB Shipyard spans for decades.

He explains that the popular cruise line has partnered with The Bahamas for more than 50 years, creating opportunities that drive economic growth for local communities and industries.

Once complete, the GB Shipyard will be reestablished as the largest cruise repair facility in the world and the project will include improved infrastructure and the expanded ability to repair large vessels.

Also on hand for the groundbreaking ceremony, was Prime Minister Philip Davis, who said that the day marks a major milestone in the story of the northern island.a

According to GB shipyard CEO Dave Skentelbery, infrastructure work on the project will be complete by the end of July 2025.
