Rookie guard VJ Edgecombe has quickly become one of Philadelphia’s early-season bright spots and a leading contender for Rookie of the Year. From a historic debut to a brief injury setback, Edgecombe has handled the spotlight and the scrutiny with maturity beyond his years.

Veteran guard Eric Gordon, now in his 18th NBA season, has taken Edgecombe under his wing. Gordon says he’s seen the young star’s growth firsthand since their time together in Spain during the Olympic qualifying tournament.

Edgecombe enters tonight averaging 14.7 points and 5.8 rebounds per game. He recently returned from a calf strain that sidelined him for three games and remains on a minutes restriction. The Sixers sit at 11–9, while the Warriors come in at 11–11.

In baseball, D’Shawn Knowles delivered late-game heroics in Team Bahamas’ 3–2 extra-inning win over the U.S. Virgin Islands. Knowles ripped a single through the right side, allowing Cherif Neymour to sprint home from second for the walk-off run.

The Bahamas trailed for most of the matchup before Pheron Charlton tied the game in the fifth with an RBI double. Team Bahamas is off tonight but returns to action Friday at 7 p.m. against the Dominican Republic, which is coming off a 21–0 loss to St. Maarten.

Head coach Michael Butler says the opening win sets the tone for what fans can expect from this experienced squad.
