Social Services Employees Demand Fair Treatment

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Members of The Bahamas Public Service Union stating staging a major demonstration at the union’s East Street South Headquarters. Those union members are Social Services employees who say they are fed up with management.

Over 150 employees of the Ministry of Social Services expressing their frustrations. Some holding up picket signs hoping to get their messages seen and heard.

President of the BPSU Kimsley Ferguson says the demonstration was necessary as employees say they have longstanding issues and concerns relating to their careers. Adding that they are not being treated fairly.

Ferguson says he met with the social services minister recently and expressed the concerns.He claims that he was not given a satisfactory update from the minister on all the pending issues.

Another bone of contention he says is that there are a number of people have been on the work program for ages and adds that there are some qualified employees who are being ousted and overlooked.

Our news team attempted to reach the social services minister but did not get a response.

Meanwhile, BPSU members say enough is enough.

The BPSU president says action will be taken if they don’t get the response that they are looking for.
