Less Than 600 Get “C” or Above in Five Subjects

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Only 10.09% or 544 candidates who sat The Bahamas General Certificate of Secondary Education examinations received a “C” or higher in at least five subjects, according to data from the Ministry of Education.

It’s a 14.06% decrease compared to 2022 where 633 students passed five subjects or more with a “C”.

5,393 candidates registered for the exam from 100 centers.

2023 also saw 901 candidates or 16.71% of overall candidates get a d or above in at least five subjects. That’s a 5.36% decrease when compared to 2022.

Additionally, only 303 candidates received at least a “C” grade or better in Mathematics, English Language, and a science subject. This represents 5.62% of the overall candidates and a 22.70% decrease compared to 2022.

The BGCSE exams saw more than 83.40% of grades awarded to candidates range from “A” to “E”.

Meanwhile, female candidates continue to outperform males in the exams, getting higher percentages with “A” to “C” and lower percentages at “D” to “U”.
