Gibson Bows Out of Chairmanship Race

GRAND BAHAMA, BAHAMAS – It’s one week out from the Progressive Liberal Party Convention, and former PLP Cabinet Minister Shane Gibson is pulling out of the chairmanship race and throwing his support behind Robyn Lynes and here’s why.

Lynes will go head-to-head with incumbent Fred Mitchell.

She has served as the party’s deputy chair for six years alongside him.

Gibson feels pulling out of the race and supporting Lynes will increase her chances.

At the upcoming convention, the party’s leader and deputy leader will be unopposed.

Mitchell says the fact that there were two candidates for chairman is an indication that there’s a need for change in the position. He believes Mitchell has done been doing his job.

Earlier this week, Mitchell told a Fox Hill constituency meeting it’s important the chairman has the support of the leader. Without it he says the chairman will not be able to get anything done.
