Fire Trail Road Shantytown Next Up for Demolition
NASSAU, BAHAMAS – While a new year brings new beginnings, for residents in this small unregulated community located off of Fire Trail Road east, the new year will bring a harsh reality – their illegally constructed homes will be torn down.
NASSAU, BAHAMAS – While a new year brings new beginnings, for residents in this small unregulated community located off of Fire Trail Road east, the new year will bring a harsh reality – their illegally constructed homes will be torn down.
Officer-In-Charge, Superintendent Stephen Carey says while this illegal community is smaller than others, it has to be demolished.
A walk through the cramped conditions shows the dire conditions.
Structures that appear to be incomplete, garbage thrown about with stagnant water gathering, an environmental nightmare.
But one thing I noticed was that the structures appear to sturdier than the typical wooden frames normally used to construct the illegal homes.
But for Carey, he says both the illegal squatters and residents with approved homes, can help solve the decades-long issue.
