Crop Over 2026: A Celebration of Bajan Culture and Heritage

BARBADOS – Our Denielle Miller has touched down in Barbados, where the island is celebrating its biggest national festival – Crop Over. While many see it as one big party, locals say the celebration is rooted in history, heritage and pride.

BARBADOS – From the moment I arrived at Grantley Adams International Airport in Barbados, the message was clear, it is Crop Over season.

The terminal was filled with colorful decorations and costumes, welcoming visitors to the island’s biggest celebration.

Meanwhile, despite what many of our viewers might think, my taxi driver Michael made it clear that Crop Over should not be compared to any other regional festival, as it possesses its own distinct identity.

“Some people call it Carnival too. Trinidad has Carnival, we have Crop Over.”

Crop Over spans several weeks and celebrates Bajan heritage through a series of events organized by the National Cultural Foundation.

At the same time, private promoters host scores of fetes that keep the energy going well into the night.

That energy was the scene at one of those events Tuesday night – Hypd.

Bajan artist and DJ Jus Jay performed at the event, and says crop over gives Barbadians the opportunity to share their culture with the world.

“We get to show the world our unique accent, our unique sound, our unique style of dance, and to know just who we are as a people.”

However, the excitement is only building.

Over the next few days, I’ll take you behind the scenes of the last days of festival as the island prepares for its biggest day – Grand Kadooment.
