National Record Holders Advance to Finals

SCOTLAND, UNITED KINGDOM – Thursday’s morning session was a productive one for Bahamians at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.

60mh world record holder Devynne Charlton made a statement in the opening round of the women’s 100-metre hurdles, winning heat two in 12.39 seconds.

The time was assisted by a plus-4.3 metres per second tailwind, but was more than enough to secure automatic qualification to the semifinals.

Meanwhile, Bahamian record holder Keyshawn Strachan booked his place in the men’s javelin final with a throw of 78.60 metres on his third and final attempt in qualifying.

Strachan needed a big throw to extend his competition, and he delivered when it mattered most to keep his medal hopes alive.

With Charlton through to the hurdles finals and Strachan set for the javelin final, Team Bahamas remains in contention for podium finishes as the games continue.

BAPA Elite Physique Championship Takes Shape

The Bahamas Athletic Physique Alliance (BAPA) is inviting the public to the elite physique championship, set for Saturday, August 15th at the University of The Bahamas.

The event will feature many of the country’s top physique athletes, including competitors from New Providence, Grand Bahama, and Exuma, who will compete after months, and in some cases years of preparation.

Athletes will battle for titles in men’s classic bodybuilding, men’s physique, men’s open bodybuilding, women’s bikini, women’s wellness, and women’s fit model.

BAPA says the championship will also serve as a qualifier and build-up to the Caribbean Grand Prix this December, where athletes will have the opportunity to earn professional status in bodybuilding and wellness.

The federation also announced plans to return competitive bodybuilding to Grand Bahama next May, with a major championship scheduled for Freeport in 2027.

The elite physique championship gets underway at 7 on August 15th, with fitness exhibitors, nutrition vendors, food, and entertainment also planned throughout the evening.

Adderley, Miller Promoted to Single-A

Two of the Bahamas’ brightest young baseball talents have taken the next step in their professional careers.

Bohan Adderley, a member of the New York Mets Organization, has been promoted to the Single-A, St. Lucie Mets, while Janero Miller has moved up to the Jupiter Hammerheads, the Single-A affiliate of the Miami Marlins.

Adderley made an immediate impact with his new club, hitting a home run in his St. Lucie debut to announce his arrival at the level.

Miller also made his single-A debut for Jupiter, reaching another milestone in his development after his promotion through the Marlins’ farm system.

The promotions mark another positive step for Bahamian baseball, with both players continuing to climb the professional ranks as they pursue their major league dreams.
